Easter day passed. It was a day of waiting. We dined later in the afternoon then headed down to Out of Town Son's house. There was a planned induction for baby #2. Best laid plans of mice and men oft go astray. And so it was. We arrived at their house around 7:00 p.m. The plan was for Son and DIL to check into hospital right after midnight (thank you insurance) for the beginning of the induction. We were to arrive mid-morning, in time to be there for the birth. I had been at the hospital for the birth of the previous six grandchildren.
Big sister, Cecilia, had her bath. DIL had her bath then declared that she was going to bed because her back hurt. I asked what part of her back and she pointed to her lower back. Son said I made my funny face (I knew what was going on!). Not 10 minutes later, 9:29 to be exact Son came through the living room and said, "She thinks her water broke". By 9:36 they were long gone to the hospital. Labor came on fast and hard.
Son texted all through the night. It was as if I was at the hospital. Little sleep was had.
This is the way it was meant to be. This birth was unique and special, even if I wasn't right there. It is her story. And we will tell it to her with relish.
Our newest granddaughter made her appearance at 3:21 on Monday morning. She was born to the Stevie Wonder tune "Isn't She Lovely?". And. She is. Lovely.
Alice Irene. 7lbs 3oz.
On Monday morning we got sister and ourselves ready to meet the newest member of the family. I donned a pair of pearl earrings Mr. Macho had given me for Christmas many years ago. I wrote a note to Alice and stuffed it in the original box the earrings came in. One day I will give these to her. Maybe she will wear them to that important job interview. Or when she is playing in Carnagie Hall. Or her ballet recital at the Met. Or when she walks up the aisle.
God's blessings on her always.
This man loves to hold his grand babies. I must make a collage of all the first holding pictures.
This was Tuesday. She was more awake, but still had the swollen birth eyes going on.
Her cheeks are so soft and kissable. Her nose is so tiny and precious.
She is just all over perfect.
Macho drove home Tuesday afternoon. I stayed the night.
Cc and I played all morning waiting for the Mom and Dad and baby Alice to get home.
She loves the see-saw.
Alice arrived home just before noon. After she nursed I got to try and burp her.
Daughter called this the "sweet sack of potatoes" photo. It is apropos.
Back at home and missing the little ones. It is addictive- the baby sugar.
Another busy month ahead. Hope we can swing back down for another baby fix real soon.
Shalom.
